Cornelius Fichtner has two Podcasts - the Project Management Podcast and the Project Management Prepcast. One is a free Podcast (that some people pay for) and the other is a Premium Podcast, at $40 per student, that more than 552 have signed up for in the last 6 months (go ahead and do the math) - just 9 came on the day before last.
Premium Content isn’t the only way Cornelius monetizes his passion - he’s got Adsense, Affiliate Programs, Sponsorships and other profit vehicles for his very Profitable Podcasting. In Profitable Podcasting #12, Paul Colligan chats with Cornelius about his wonderful success.

Episode 11 of Profitable Podcasting brings Andrew Baron of Rocketboom in a fascinating discussion of the ‘Boom’s move to Blip.TV in a “non-exclusive” ad sales relationship. Andrew shares with Paul Colligan the different ad-insertion models he has at his disposal (you’d be surprised) and his position as a “small” media property that gets more than one million downloads in any given week. If you’re even close to consider ad sales in your desire to be a profitable Podcaster, this is an episode you won’t want to miss.

In Episode 10 of Profitable Podcasting, I had the privilege of chatting with Stefan Molyneux of Freedomain Radio. He doesn’t charge for his Podcast and has no sponsors. He also sells no product of his own yet he sees $3,000.00 to $5,000.00 a month in donations from his audience. That’s $36 to $60k a year for a job that seldom passes 40 hours a week. Although his entire revenue stream is from donations, he places a value on his content (instead of pushing the “free”) and his audience responds accordingly.
A lot of Podcasters could learn a lot of things from Stefan. I sure did.

Fred Greene of SmarterPodcasts.com has a great little model for Podcast Monetization that a lot of people might want to look at. In short, the content is the ad - and the consumers love it anyway. In Episode #9 of Profitable Podcasting, Paul Colligan chats with Fred about his model and what other Podcasters could learn from it.

Profitable Podcasting #7 is an interview with Geoff Smith, the guy who writes the theme songs for some of the top Podcasts today (and pays some bills in the process). Show product and ad sales ain’t the only way to make some money in this industry.
Your host is a big fan of Geoff Smith. I enjoy his music and his friendship. I was thrilled when I got him to write the theme song for the Profitable Podcasting Podcast and was lucky enough to have Geoff pen the theme to the Zune Brothers Podcast as well. I paid him for the service and it was money very well spent.
Podcasters aren’t the only ones that are going to see revenue from this media revolution. Geoff helps pay the bills writing theme songs for other Podcasters and I knew I had to get him on the show.
You can buy Geoff’s album at CDBaby, iTunes or (track at a time) at the Podsafe Music Network.

I love it when great content is rewarded for being great content.
When I first saw Don McAllister’s Video Podcasts (over at ScreenCastsOnline.com), I thought he was one of the many “nice guys” out there who made great tutorials for the masses (for free). When I first moved over to the Mac last July, Don offered me a free 6-month membership to his Video Podcast site. I didn’t even know he was charging for the thing.
I quickly realized two things: his content was first rate and this guy had a very interesting business model. When I asked him how well he was “converting,” I was floored with the numbers. We met at Podcast Expo II and I found myself as impressed with him as a person as I was with his content and model. I knew I had to have him on the show.
In episode #6 of Profitable Podcasting, we spend nearly a half hour with Don who explains where he came from, how he got to “quit the day job” without the help of anyone else’s VC money, and where he’s going next.
The project we talk about at the end can be found at Build A Subscription Podcast. I’d get on that list today.

This isn’t your “traditional” episode of Paul’s Profitable Podcasting, but is is an important recording for anyone interested in the topic.
Check out the store eMedia Marketplace. Notice that is sells most of the “old guard” of ebook audio. Soon it will be selling Premium Podcast content. To make things more interesting, there are 999 other stores just like it - that ALL will be selling Premium Podcast content.
Paul Colligan interviewed Paul Smithson of eMediaMarketplaceEngine.com exactly one hour before his site launched to the general public. PPP #05 is the recording of the entire teleseminar.

In Paul’s Profitable Podcasting #4, Paul Colligan interviews Steven Prussack of RawVeganRadio.com. First, this guy Podcasts what he knows and loves. Secondly, he’s making a great profit from it.
And this is just the beginning. By launching this very niche, but very profitable Podcast ($7500 in affiliate revenue from just one vendor alone), Steven has etched himself a place in the Profitable Podcasting Hall of Fame.

In episode #3 of Paul Colligan’s Profitable Podcasting, Paul Colligan interviews Kelly McAwley of Timeless Candles about the, get this, Timeless Candles Podcast. Not only does the thing exist, but it is a vital part of his business strategy - and when you run the numbers, it makes a lot of sense.
Paul put Kelly’s Podcast as a case study in The Business Podcasting Bible. What seemed like a case study in Podfading has become a fascinating look into the profitability potential of any Podcast. Even one about candles.
